Self-directed / Generative tool

Verdance

Growing flowering plants from parameters instead of modelling them by hand.

A plant is not a shape. It is a set of rules that ran for a while.

So the tool grows one rather than drawing it — branch angle, stem taper and bloom density are inputs, and the geometry is what falls out.

System

The parameters are the design surface.

Every plant comes out of the same generator; what separates one from the next is where its parameters sit. The work was choosing which of them to expose, because a slider that produces nothing plausible is worse than no slider at all.

Constraint

Plausible beats accurate.

This is not a botanical simulation and does not try to be. The rules are tuned until the output reads as something that could grow, which is a lower bar than correctness and a much more useful one for a tool meant to produce variety quickly.
